❃ Pentaceratops was a large herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period. It was one of the last known members of its group, and was one of the largest land animals of its time.
❃ It's known from fossils found in North America, and was one of the largest dinosaurs that lived in that continent. It grew to an estimated length of 9 meters (30 feet), and weighed around 4,000 kilograms (8,800 pounds).
❃ The Pentaceratops had a large skull, with a distinctive frill around the back edge. The frill was made up of several thick horns, and may have served to protect the neck from predators. Pentaceratops also had a large beak, and teeth that were adapted for eating plants.
